Stock Eliminator racer Perry Simpkins managed four rounds in HR class eliminations despite carb woes.

The little red vette roadster is my buddy Chad Fergen. He made the trek all the way from Brookings SD for the event. Managed to make it to the semi's in his class. Chad is an all around cool guy. By the way he hauled that there on his little open trailer. Plus it's seen regular street action over the years. That event is on my bucket list for sure. Lots of cool cars.

It had been fifteen years since I last been to US 43 Raceway, formerly owned by Jim Butler. My only goal tonight was to get one of the Q-jets tuned to run decently...the hell commenced as soon as I unloaded the car lol. Neither of my two carbs would make a clean pass down the track...I was just about to the point of heaving them into the treeline.
![]() 5 minutes before first round I tore one of them completely down leaning the primary jets, stiffening the air door spring, taping the secondary rod slots on the gasket and installed CV rods on a K hanger. It made a clean pass, but the car was a real dog all night. Ended up going 8 rounds losing in the final. One of these days I will own a good Q-jet haha... ![]() https://www.facebook.com/US43Dragway ![]() ![]() There was a nasty nitro Fuel Altered on premises this evening... ![]()

Rich, it looks like the mechanical gremlins are a thing of the past. If you could get a 'known good' QJet to try, that would answer a lot of questions.
Good job on getting to the finals! ![]()

Congrats on goin' 8 rounds! thats great!...yea, that is weird... 1.45s early in the year, and slowing down that much... find a known working qjet, and see what happens... i hope its not an internal deal, like a cam , or something... Your mph has fallen off a bit, too, as well, correct?

what primaries, and what do the CV rods measure? are they like .052? I cant remember... i run 65 primaries, DA (.044) secondaries on K hanger... my flap is pretty loose and choke pulloff is about 1 second, and its adjustable... you need to contact Cliff Ruggles at Cliff's High Perfomance in Mt Vernon OHIO...
he sells adjustable pulloffs, and the best parts you can hope to find...and he is a master tuner... Call him, buy a few good acc pumps, an adjustable choke pulloff and anything else you might need...he will be glad to help you with some expert advice... He has been a huge help to my qjet adventure... Helped me get 1.44 60fts and 10,80s from a tired old 455 bracket engine... Cliff @ 740-397-2921 Mornings are best to get ahold of him, in my experience.
