Re: What was your daily driver in the mid 1960's
Bought my first car, a '53 Ford Victoria in 1964 for $25.00. Went through a few other Ford's and Mopar's (as well as a 1960 Hillman Minx) during High School. My 1950 Ford Sedan scared my parents so much they refused to let me park it at home (think scenes from "Christine"!) They finally helped me purchase a 1966 360 HP SS396 Chevelle, which I kept until boot camp in 1967, when it was sold. I always wished I had grown up in the country so I could've kept more of the "collection"!
Lew Now down to just five!

First ride was a Black 1960 Biscayne 348/335 hp 4-speed, wish I had that back. Next ride was a 1969 Dart Swinger 340 4-speed, had it 3 years and sold it with 9600 miles on it.

I didn't get one of those until the early 70's - along with an M88 Recovery Vehicle.

Re: What was your daily driver in the mid 1960's
In 1967 I received my draft notice.....I was already married and my wife was pregnant. I was given a 4a classification by the local draft board. I consider myself lucky.......I was never called to serve......
Those of you that did serve in that era are owed a lot of gratitude for your service. Looking back it was not a good time for many young men our age......

Re: What was your daily driver in the mid 1960's
I started off with a '57 Ford 2dr sedan 292 auto, which I converted to stick. Then onto a '62 Chev Impala 327/340 3 speed, After that came a '55 Chev 2dr sedan with 396/425 4spd Corvette motor/trans. The stock rears lasted about 2 weeks each.

Re: What was your daily driver in the mid 1960's
In 1966 until I graduated high school I drove a 1956 Chevrolet Belair 2 dr hardtop with a 327/340 hp 4 muncie speed. It was fun, but the first time I went to the strip I think they wanted to put me in B/MP, no chance in that class.

Re: What was your daily driver in the mid 1960's
In 1966 my daily driver was a blue metallic 1966 Pontiac Catalina coupe [389 2 bbl auto] that I had purchased with both quarter panels damaged & repaired. Drove it to Galveston Tx on vacation. My drag race driver was a 1966 GTO purchased as a theft recovery [no motor or trans] installed a 389 4 bbl & turbohydro for F-2 BS/A [N.A.D.S. rules] Only got to race it a couple of times at Tri-State Dragway, Kahoka, MO before I received the letter from Uncle Sam. Later that year my daily driver became a 5-ton dump truck around Long Binh, Saigon & the Iron Triangle at Xmas.

Re: What was your daily driver in the mid 1960's
In '66 my daily driver was the black '50 Olds that "Yac" has in his V/Stock pictures. It had a hopped up '56 324 Olds engine and good 4-speed Hydrostick. With 4.30 gears and 8.20 x 15 Atlas Bucron tires, I used to tell the '62 to '66 Muscle Car drivers to leave whenever they wished. The car wouldn't spin a tire and I'd be long gone before they ever found traction.
If I survive a couple of more years, it may be my Summer daily driver again, but updated a little. Jerry |
