My '66 Chevy II Nova SS, an original 327/glide, black on black combo, that I ran from '74 until '88. I ended up building a 331/ 4 speed/ 5:57 geared setup on 10.5 tires. I broke a bunch of parts, did a lot of wheelies,, didn't win a lot , but had a ton of fun,, wish I still had it. In '87 with a growing family, I decided to buy a '55 Bel-Air hardtop, found this one at the Portland Swap Meet, and tried my hand at making a nice street machine and show car we all could ride in and enjoy. I ended up building a 383 stroker with a 4 speed and 3:70s and it ran quite well. I won a bunch of trophies, including a couple Super Chevys, got a few magazine shots including a centerfold feature in Popular Hot Rodding( June '93), and some local media. I let it go in 2003, and decided to go back into racing. In June of '03 after searching the internet, I found my current ride, a '68 Chevy II in Whiteland, Indiana, courtesy of Rick Shipp of Shipp Family Racing ( thats what it said in the back window). The 355 in the car lasted 8 seasons before I replaced it with a 406/glide. The car has a Dana 60 with 4:88s on 10.5 tires, has gone 10.20s hauling my lard butt, and will go rounds and win as long as this old fart does his job correctly. We've stayed close to home with it, but maybe I should tow it to Ohio next year for the upcoming Classnationals,, I flew out for the last one in 2001 and had a great time. I'm thinking about it.
