Re: Last 3 Stock cars at Pomona - AA/SA!
I'm looking at a 1964 NHRA Class Guide, and it shows only the Savoy 2 dr post and Belvedere 2dr HDT as aluminum classified, (5.90 & 5.91).

My memory agrees with Fred. I ordered a 64 belvedere in late '63.

I agree. Been around these cars all my life and have owned one for the last 32 years. Some of the confusion may come from the fact that not only could you buy the aluminum from the factory but for the 1963 car's Chry. sent some owners a complete front end in order to make the 1963 cars NHRA legal. If I remember correctly only the High Compression 1964 cars got the alum. while the loe compression cars did not. JimR

And you couldn't get the high compression with a steel front end. It came one way only, aluminum.

Floyd I dont agree, Drove Stein's cars for two years and his 64 2dr post Belv. was a factory steel 425hp Stage 3 and still is.

Re: Last 3 Stock cars at Pomona - AA/SA!
Thats the problem with the 63-64 Mopars. You could get anything you wanted back in the day. The 63 STATION WAGONS were allowed alum front ends (Can you say "WAR WAGON"). At least one 63 Max Wedge Alum front end Sport Fury Convert was built and sold. Some say the Dodge Polara Convert. was assembly line produced so its in the guide. All you can do is go with the CURRENT NHRA class guide. The old IHRA production S/S giude showed Alum front ends avaliable for all bodys in 63 and 64.

Re: Last 3 Stock cars at Pomona - AA/SA!
Well Bob, I ordered one from the local dealer, paid my money and 6 weeks later I got a letter from chrysler that they would only deliver that car with an aluminum front end. Hell I couldn't afford to run AFX back then, or now either for that matter. I was trying to get a jump on A stock. This was in October or November of '63.
