That fire was scary to watch. I am so glad that the driver is still alive. I would say that God was watching out for him.

I hate to say this, but I would suggest IHRA invest in some safety and Fire Extinguisher classes before next race, I saw a pic in FB with 3 or 4 semi trucks that said ?safety convoy? in my opinion as a previous firefighter and a racer what I saw in that video was unacceptable to that racer. No im not being an IHRA hater, I would also love to support them someday also, but they need to train their personnel on safety before they kill someone.

Some fire extinguishing agent on the driver earlier in that deal may have been helpful in reducing his injuries. Hard to get up close with the violence of that thing exploding. Don't know if I've ever seen one that ugly.

A legit fire truck, and crew, behind the starting line, in addition to what they have at the bottom of the track, would help with response times. Seems to take the trucks on the bottom end an agonizing amount of time to get to a car that has a crash and/or fire early in the run.

Watching this guy's wife/GF over the wall watching all of this was awful.

Driver is a friend of mine. His wife posted on Facebook that he is in intensive care and his angels are watching over him.

Hard to not agree with that....There was two of the starting line people that got burned trying to immediately assist. One was a track regular worker; I was told the guy from mass traction also. I talked to the track worker, he burned his fingertips but continued to help all day.

Prayers for a full recovery for this young man. Please Lord, give the doctors all they need to make him well again. May God provide comfort for his wife during this very difficult situation.

What I don't understand is why racer turnout was so low

If my 327 wasn't broken i probably would have had my Camaro there in Super Stock. Might try to put something together for later this year or next year.

At this race (so far) there are 15 entries in Stock and 21 in Super Stock.

I think it would be interesting to hear the true reasons why the car counts are so low.

The debacle that took place prior to this race?
No class eliminations?
Some went to SGMP?
Not NHRA? (Wally)
Cost of joining IHRA/New #/License?
They are NOT using the current NHRA indexes. (did anyone know that?)

Here's the past 4 years of car counts at the NHRA Sportsnationals.

2024
Stock: 119
Super Stock: 113

2023
Stock: 119
Super Stock: 117

2022
Stock: 139
Super Stock: 103

2021
Stock: 143
Super Stock: 107
