Re: 1965 Impala BBC I/S
Ed;
My car is ran only 8 hundredths away from the G/PS record. And drive it to the tracks. Can you do that with an ATI converter? There are more things to do to make it quicker which requires a trailer. Corbitt Marshburn went a best of 12.55 in his ImpalaSS in F trim. 300 lbs lighter than my car. He gives me hope. ATI is a great builder, but so are a lot of others. The key reason I would consider them, they are close to Rockville, Md Back to topic. Will, Please send the pictures of the chassis mods you made. D |

Re: 1965 Impala BBC I/S
Probably run UNDER the record, and drive it to the track. Why not? People do drive them on the street. You don't have to have a lock up converter to drive it. Testing we did with a '95 Camaro showed a same stall speed P. I. Vigilante converter to be 1/10th quicker than the yank. Still had lock up for street cars.
I get it, you are impressed with your own car. I hope I never get to that point, I would probably just keep doing the same things, and stop trying to get faster. Mine will never be fast enough. People just trying to help you here.

Re: 1965 Impala BBC I/S
Help, my thread got highjacked! Only kidding Dan. I am working on the frame mods still, should have done by weekend. I will send pics ASAP.
James your right about stick shift, "real race cars have 3 pedals" I will most likely start with a race prepped Turbo 350 I have, which i bought 10 YEARS AGO to run in the 68 i bought but decided to run the Jerico. Right now i don't have a jerico or clutch, but if i come across one I will run that combo for sure, but the plan is down the road it will be a stick shift car again. I did not go from 15's to 12's without making it go faster. My car has the Lock-up feature and makes driving to the track tolerable. Right now got a lot of data with two Converter companies and do not want to restart with another. AND yes I am impressed with the performance of my car. I earned and paid for it. Just like you !! WILL.. btw my 1969 Impala was a stick car.. You have me very intrigued to go Stick. D Last edited by Dan Fahey; 07-03-2013 at 12:34 PM. |

Hell, I am impressed what you and others have done! You are a study of building successful race cars. Heck Bill Nees $1000 Stocker...damned impressed !! Go by the website and view the YankSS. It is designed to be street tractable. Get a Caddy, G8, Camaro, FB, add a SS4000, gears, tires, tune and you will run near the Stock index. You are the Ed Wright tuner specialist, correct? D |

Re: 1965 Impala BBC I/S
Yes, that is my correct name.
About anything will run "near the index", they are way too soft.

Imho, the indexes need whacked about half a second. Just about everybody I work with can run over a second under. Street cars can run the index if you have a clue.
