Are you talking about the TARANTULA / TORKER series manifolds for the big block chevies. Made for both oval and rectangular port heads in the early 1970's. Carb mount was twisted around to more equalize the length of the intake port runners. Not absolutely sure but I believe this design was tried on another manufactures motor with less success.

Thanks to both replies.
Just hoping all that was not "flashback" of a memory.
Strange times back then!

289/ 302 Ford versions of the Torker also had the carb twisted.

The Edelbrock Torker #TM2R (Chevrolet big-block, rectangular port)
recommended for automatics.

About 20 years I saw an original 1960s Carter blueprint for an AFB three barrel. It was for NASCAR Pontiacs but I have no idea if it was ever actually built or run.

It did the secondaries just like Holley - the carb looked identical to a regular AFB until you looked down the secondary throat.

That's the one I remember.

Thanks.

You are correct Dan.

Carter 3636S

950 CFM 3 barrel built specifically for 421SD Pontiac

Holley had 3 versions of the 3 barrel.

First were for NASCAR Hemi with LeMans bowls like a Ford GT-350 289 715 cfm or a 427 FE 780 cfm single 4.
That carb on a cross ram bath tub style mag intake was the only "real" single carb Hemi in 1965.
950 CFM

Then came aftermarket 950 4150 cathedral bowl and a year later a 1050 version with big holes in the choke plate.

Years ago we actually cut one up and re-installed the top back on straight. Picked up over .20 and 2 MPH. Called Jim McFarland and told him about it. He said they knew but most of their SBF customers were not seeing the other side of 6000 RPM so they did not care.
Besides he said to me, we sell chebbie manifolds 50 to one over Fords so that is where all of our R&D resources are going.
