I have read many current & older post to learn more about S/G & S/ST tech requirements for setting up an engine/car. As a newbie I did not want to flood the forum with basic questions. However I want to renew my drag racing participation on the right foot. No pun intended. The following is my current goals and existing chassis. Any input to this thread or in PM is greatly appreciated.
- Goal 800-1000HP N/A BBF 532/557 to compete in S/G S/ST. Builder suggestions? - PG transmission - partial to Hughes open to suggestions. - Current 11yr old chassis '88 Fox with QA1 front K-member & dble adjustable front shocks & cast / camber plates. - Front motor plate - 10 points cage. last cert.2003 @ 8.50. Will need new cert & upgrade to meet latest NHRA requirements. Chassis shop suggestions? - Hotchkis adjustable rear control arms. pan hard bar. Is 4 link rear suspension the norm in S/G S/ST? - 8.8 Moser 33 spline axles, 5 stud, Clip eliminators, spool 4.10 welded center section & Moser rear cover. - ET fronts & 10.5 x28 MT Great information in forum about Throttle stops, initial settings, electronics, shift type & differences & data acquisition. None of which I have experience with. Was just getting into delay box & TB when I packed it up. Thanks in advance. Warren |

With the Pro tree for SG and S/ST now at .400 and .500 respectively It's a lot easier for cars with almost any good working suspension and even limited tires to be competitive
There are quite a few successful S/ST cars that run 9x30 and 10.5 tires . Not common in Super Gas ,but it has been done. Personally I think a car like yours might be better suited to .90 racing with a large displacement small block 351 than the 460. The rear suspension should work well, probably will need more gear, maybe not with the28" tires I'd consider upgrading to larger axles . ,there are lots of cars that run in the classes that have ladder bars and even Cal Tracs . Four links are great but not necessarily a requirement. Good luck with the project

Thanks Tom. I would agree S/ST being a good re-entry point. I reviewed my last pass data from 2007 (paper data) lol. Best was 10.10 @ 133MPH RT.- .5829 60' - 1.4253 1320'. Launch @ 4000RPM shift on RPM @ 6800. Based on Dyno data @ 650HP @ 6800RPM. . I feel we may have been leaving HP on the table with 133MPH. We hadn't dailed in QA1 suspension fully, nor the change to PG/T-B/Delay box.
Thoughts on MPH versus ET? PS weight 3080lbs w/driver. |

I'd say you're loosing 2 to 3 tenths E.T.
60' is a little weak but that and the E.T. are likely in the converter that's probably built soft for the small tires

Agreed on both, loss through converter & Trans. Band let go 7th pass on rebuild. Tom is very knowledgeable & helpful from all the post I have read. Thank you very much.

Your numbers are very similar to mine, although my car weighs almost 3600# and the MPH is more like 127-128.
I've been running S/ST for about 10 years that way, and it's worked very well. I do a lot of looking over my shoulder though.
