Default Front Wheel Drive Trans Options And Help

I have a broken trans on a DF/S Oldsmobile Delta 88 6 cylinder. Wondering if I should rebuild the original stock 440T4 trans that's in car or if there is a better option. I was told that the TH325 is like the TH200 except for 6 cylinders. Any truth to this ? Is there any place to look up internal rotating mass and trans weight specs for these 6 cylinder options ?

TH425 = 1966 to 1978 (used on Cadillac Eldorado, Oldsmobile Toronado and the GMC motorhomes/transmodes)
TH325 = 1979 to 1981 (used on Cadillac Eldorado and 1980-generation Seville, and the Oldsmobile Toronado and Buick Riviera)
TH325-4L = 1982 to 1985 (see TH325 for usage)
TH125 = 1980 to 1981
TH125C = 1982 to 1986
TH440T4 transaxle = 1985 to 1986 (used with TH125C)

Any gear and convertor advice ? I'm new to the game. Thanks !!

I would talk to Owen Quirion. He built some home made parts for his BF/S Grand Am. He is a member on here, I believe under his own name.

325 / 325-4L / 425 are all front to back transmissions so they won't work. I would think your best bet would be a properly built 125, should take less power to turn than the 440.

First of all , the older FWD V8's are mounted north/south, where the newer FWD engines (80's and newer) are mounted east / west .

Better PM me on this one

A 4T65-e will have the correct bellhousing, and there are combinations of final drives and sprocket ratio's to get you a decent overall ratio. I think Joel has done a few of these. Joel on Joy . These transmissions are plenty strong !
