Default rear metallic brake shoes P/N 3830635

Need help finding rear metallic brake shoes P/N 3830635 for GM 12 bolt (or equivalent) I had no idea these are so hard to come by. My father had 5 sets of these things he gave me years ago and I went through all of them without knowing they were almost worth their weight in gold! Is this a discontinued part?

Thankx; Pete Kivett

FED 387 - thank you for the contact. Scott referred me to Rochester Brake and Clutch out of NY and they told me “good luck in finding a set”. Apparently in the industry they are referred to as “velvet touch” shoes and are relined in Switzerland!!! Nobody makes these brake shoes anymore. And he is checking for me if he can get or has some at a reasonable price. He asked me to describe how they looked? I told him they had individual square pucks on the back shoe and on the front shoe’s the bucks were spaced out a little further. He laughed and said the nostalgic road race community is paying through the nose for these things. Thank you for the lead but I think I’m going to convert the rear to disk now. I wish I knew what I had, I would not have use them.

Kevin - I like the pedal feel especially when staging. I recently had to replace the metallic shoes on the back of my Nova (stocker) with some off the shelf stuff and it felt horrible. They are adjusted right but it just feels like I’m stepping into a sponge. I got Aero Space brakes up front; I’ll just suck-it-up over the winter and do the same to the rear.

Pete, If you can get somebody to sell you the material, you can get a brake place to install it as long as you supply the shoes. Otis Friction Supply seems like they'd do it for you. They might even have some laying around. I can get the name of the contact I talked to out there if you want. We used to use those shoes but they were hard on drums. They stopped the car though.

I think i got a set in the shop at school, let me have a look.
I was a line tech for GM for 22 years, and there was a TSB on rear brakes on M vans that used those shoe's.
