Not that it matters, except for Indy next year. ;-) Autumn is hitting the tree well! She'll be tough to beat, once it's dialed in.

The Racepak really rattled me out there. Anyway, we have a digital 7 box and adjust the shift point for the 1-2 a couple of hundred lower and it seemed to help. Yes, 3-4 is easy to short shift so you are going to be fine when you get your shift light the way you want it. We would run H sometimes with the 283 just because it was fun to run at 2800lbs, but it wasn’t as good as I. Your driver is doing great by the way!

I don't know what RPM you are shifting 1-2, but if it is early relative to the other shifts the ET won't suffer.

For a stick car the 11.43 is great for the mph its right on the money.

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.
We ran better this morning but after looking at the video I think maybe we have some discrepancy in tach rpm and actual rpm, I have been telling Autumn as she gets more comfortable to pay close attention to the tach and not the shift light, this morning she hit 1-2 at 7300ish 2-3 7000 3-4 7000 (She's usually higher). 1-2 sounded ok but 2-3 and 3-4 didn't recover well, so I stopped the video on the 2-step (set at 6200) and the tach looks like it reads 6500. So possibly the tach is reading 300 high, we'll test the theory 1st round. Either way, it ran good but would have been faster. Oh and tires were 13.5 and had the best 60' yet.

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.
Adding more tire psi really picked up the 60'.The motor is making way more than 390 hp!.Good job!!...gsa612

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.
Todd &Autumn,
Electronic tachometers are typically +/-5% of full scale devices. You could have used the tach while you were on the dyno (using the dyno tach as a standard for comparison) to quantify it. However, you can use an MSD ignition tester to quantify the real numbers fof both tach and shift light. The process only takes a few minutes and doesn't require running the engine, using a test spark plug. The g meter indication on the race pak can also give you lots of info on shift points as when the g is at peak in each gear so you can relate that to RPM for solid reference. Good Luck in your testing process. Takes a lot of passes, but worthwhile when you take good notes and narrow solution paths. Regards, HB2 Dissident |

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.
An MSD ignition tester is a good tool to check a tach.
I’ve had tachs off as much as 500 rpm at 7000
