Default Crossmember modification?

Hi,

Building a 89 Mustang. I know that in SS/GT and Modified classes you can remove the center part of the front crossmember and then mount the steering rack on a new round tube crossmember. Does that mean I can also cut off the factory engine mount stands that are welded to the part of the crossmember that remains? Would seem to be reasonable but then again...................... Thanks.

I'll assume you're refering to the K- member? I was told that you can do what you want to it as long as it WAS an original factory K-member, this was told top me by NHRA official at tha track. Don't recall his name though, as with most grey areas your best bet is to call NHRA. Joe

Thanks Joe. That was also my understanding but I wanted to get a opinion from someone "in the field" so to speak! NHRA opinions seem to vary......................
