Spectators at certain events have been trained this way. It's all in how it is presented and marketed. People loved Top Stock. People watched Pinks All Out. 40,000 people watch sportsman racing for three days at Norwalk's Divisional. People love real cars. Are there some people that only watch nitro? Yes, obviously. Are there people who are more than just nitro fans or prefer other types of cars? Yes, obviously.

Training the spectators AGAIN like they were by radio ads in the 70s would work on the TV ads, paper DRAGSTER. Make the Factory classes at least the same pictures and articles as John Force and it would happen. Leave them to choke out by themselves like all other sportsman classes and it would be a tough job.
A TEAM approach from NHRA, Magazines, Media and ANNOUNCERS would return ALL drag racing to center stage again..
Micheal I would be glad to help next year on the idea of "Center Stage" for factory shoot out type deal....

Cool Re: This would be too cool!

I think this would be a good thing, everyone can recognize these cars, they are a hell of a lot more affordable to run and maintain, have a lot better chance of generating "win on Sunday, sell on Monday" sales, don't need a lot of crew members, get down the track without issues and turn impressive numbers. I've watched this sport for over 45 years and factory door cars are what I sit in the stands for, I could care less about watching a drifting in a straight line-peddle fest, that's not drag racing.

Maybe a 2 year delay to prevnt lawsuits

While I as most on here would love to see this.

How would you feel if you were a current Pro Stock Racer and picked up the phone to hear someone from NHRA say "Hey you know that multimillion dollar operation that you got and have spent years and millions on R&D on." "Well throw that stuff in the garbage can and start over again because we just threw your class away" ???

Can you say Pro Stock truck type lawsuit only 200 times worse.

Hell they wont even make Pro Mod a "Pro" class and in my opinion its twice as much fun to watch as Top Fool and the other fuel cars with pick truck beds on the back (AKA funny car)

The novice or first time attending fan likes cars they can IDENTIFY with.

There are street Camaros, Challengers and Mustangs EVERYWHERE!

Imagine some chick in the stands who has a V-6 2012 Camaro seeing a car that actually *looks like* her car!!!!
Brand loyalty and marketing genius!!!!
I vote "Hell Yes"

I have not been to a national event in awhile. Do the fans stay in their seats for Pro Mod?
