Heat treating from Tom's Differentials was the best mod I ever did. We ran 6.14s in our 283 station wagons and the heat treat doubled pinion life.

Super 10 update:

All parts to reassemble the engine are in hand except for one cylinder head and the head is expected soon.

The rebuild will follow the original specifications except for .030" more intake valve to piston clearance.

One change, the original build had a 6.0 rear gear and I have changed to a 5.86 rear gear. I think the slight gear change will be a positive move. It was just buzzing along the last 150 feet or so.

Otherwise all else is the same and I expect it to be race ready end of January. A few engine assembly photo updates will follow soon.

The Super 10 will soon ride again.

It was a good work day with block master Monte, he:

*fitted the rings
*removed all galley plugs
*washed with soap & hot water
*dried and oiled
*block is on engine stand ready to assemble

Monte doing the final drying.

Next week the short block will be assembled

A fine and cool East Texas morning with MSD 7AL-2 hot sparks

The initial build was with an MSD 6AL which has given good service. With some trading between race packages this 7AL-2 became available so the Super 10 receives the upgrade.

In addition for easier access the ignition is being moved from behind the passenger seat.

Because the 7AL-2 has extra RPM module ports a plug in component can also be removed.

Larry

What is the HP rating for the 327 with the 585 quick fuel carb? I just picked up a 327 engine.

Mike,
If I have this figured correctly in your car you would have to run GT with a factor of 293 auto.
With a Q Jet a factor of 295 in super stock.
I have looked at this for my 67 camaro.
Seems to me the Q Jet would be worth the extra 2hp with the auto.
In my car with a stick the small carb is 289 in GT.

Mike,

it is the 1966 Corvette 327/300 @ 293 for SS/GT classes.

the 585 Quick Fuel is a good carb. While I understand many racers run great with a Q-Jet I elected the simplicity of the Holley

At 3170 pounds the Super 10 has run 10.40 in 2700 feet air. The original build has been improved in several small ways and I "expect" 10.20's this season.
