Default Weight question?

If a car moves up a class to a lighter class, is there a max weight it must meet?

Random example.

The 1969 Nova. 3337 shipping weight with Manual Trans and iron heads is 385hp. Weight Break 8.66 B/S.

Is there a minimum weight it would have to meet to run A/S 8.00? Or can it weigh whatever and jump up to that class?

Going down a class I understand adding to meet the minimum of that weight break.Does it go both ways?

Thanks!!!

You can't be over B weight, and run A, if that's what you're asking.

Yes, there is a max weight for class racing. If your weight is more than your class than you must move to the next lower class or get bounced. Approx. 15 years ago NHRA stopping anyone from utilizing excessive amounts of ballast. The reasoning is: get a more realistic hp factor for that combo. Comp, is different, the exact rule is lost some where in between my ears, can only be within so many inches as claimed ....... I think

Sorry Mark I fat fingered my number...

3337 plus 170 for the driver is 3507 Minimum weight
So one pound off the B/S minimum 3506 and you are good to race up a class?

A min: 8×385=3080+170=3250

B min: 8.5×385=3272 +170=3440

All weights are rounded down to the next 5 pound increment. The A max would be less than 3440.

You may not claim any more than 5 cubic inches of your actual engine size in Comp.
