Default Need help an E-shift ASAP PLEASE!!!!!!

We have a new (to us) car, new motor, new trans. The car has an E shift and we seem to be having a problem with it Shifting with the E shift. How do you bypass the E shift so that you can shift it manually? Any help would be greatly appreciated we need to test the car as soon as possible.

You can put 12v to the solenoids to bypass them and shift manually. It's best to put it on some kind of a switched source, probably ignition, so power isn't constantly going to the solenoids.

What kind of problems are you having?

there seems to be a short somewhere. When we first tried it it worked fine when you went from 1st to second the light would come on and the same when you went from second to 3rd the corresponding light would light up indicating you were in 3rd gear. I wanted to bypass it to confirm that the car is indeed going through all 3 gears should this problem ever occur again and be able to know that if necessary we could shift it manually. When you hook 12V to it do you also have hook a ground to the other prong next to it and does it matter which one you plug it into on the connection on the trans?

You need to run 12v to each prong as each controls 1 solenoid. There should be wires inside that ground each solenoid on the valve body.

I had a similar problem at Bristol earlier this year. As stated put 12v to both wires and you can shift manually. You may also want to put a test light on each point and see if it comes on with the corresponding lights to confirm there is actually power there before you pull the trans out. The boxes are a more common problem than the trans itself, but there are relays inside the trans that do go bad.

Are you refering to the contacts coming out of the E shift box when you say to check the contact points?

Yes that is correct. Put it in pit mode or lower your shift points and you can hold a test light on it when the little light comes on to confirm it is putting power to the terminal.

If you have access to an MSD ignition tester you can cycle the cheeta e as many times as you like to help with dianosing the problem. Testing the outputs would be the place to start, however if you can see the indicator lite come on I'd say the box is most likely working. Other issues of intermittent operation may be caused by simple wiring or conection issues, be sure to trace all the wiring.
