Default powerglide gear sets

I am slowly putting together a 69 camaro SS JA (255/350), I have a powerglide with a1-80 straight cut gear set from my super gas project, would it be worth the trouble to switch to a 1-98 gear set, the car will race primarily in the Can Am stock superstock series up here, not looking to set any world records!

1.98 seems to work quite well

Leave the 1.80 for now. It'll last a lot longer. You can always switch it down the road if you want.

Like Jody said, start with the 1.80 and get your program together and then look to make it better. We have a 1.87, 1.90, 1.94, 1.98, 2.08, and a 2.18 - the higher the number, the weaker they get as the important gears have to get physically smaller. We have a lot of customers that run a 1.98 - in an average of a 10 second car at 3200-3400 lbs and they last anywhere from 300 to 500 passes. Many variables to consider for life though.
