Low Comp. BB Chevy
I know this is the Stock and Super Stock Tech forum but I thought you guys would have the most experience running low comp. engines and having good luck with them. I have a 522 ci. BB Chevy that is a 9.6 to 1 comp. engine that I want to be a really competitive bracket engine. I was told that it won't be that competitive because it doesn't have a compression. It's going into a all round tube very light weight Camaro with a glide and 4 link rear end. I watch some of these stockers run dead on a lot. I hope you all can guide me on the right path. I don't want to rebuild it because its fresh.

Re: Low Comp. BB Chevy
Not a problem in the least.
By the way, the winningest (is that a word?) car in the history of NHRA runs a low compression combo. |

Re: Low Comp. BB Chevy
You can build "compression" (cylinder pressure) with careful camshaft selection.
For what it's worth, back in the old days when I was Bracket Racing my Camaros (smallblocks) I tried to build as much mechanical compression as I could. The higher the compression, the less a combo seems to be affected by the weather.

Re: Low Comp. BB Chevy
low compression will be fine bracket racing, the main thing for consistency, isn't how much compression you have, but how well it is sealed up, a good sealing engine, valves, rings etc. will be more consistent than one not sealed up well.
Like Billy said cam is different in low compression engine. Mike Taylor 3601 |
