Default National Open - Medicine Hat, Alberta

We would like to extend an invitation to everyone to attend the National Open in Medicine Hat, Alberta to be held August 3 - 5.
This is a double header race, so we get two shots at the eliminator along with 2 grade points.
The MHDRA has been working hard on more and more improvements. The track has be ground and plained smooth, extended gaurdrails, the pits have been enlarged, new burnout box, upgraded timing system etc. etc. It just keeps getting better.

Friday night we're going to have the 2nd Annual fun race - The rules are simple. Qualifying is based on a draw from a hat. You get one hit. Dial your car and race. You get your ET "only" after each round and of course who is the winner and loser. (We give you your ET slips after the race). No reaction times, no scoreboards, no weather stations (honor system on the weather stations) etc. It's a lot of fun and you see just how well you know your car. The winnner and runner-up each get a piece of the winnings PLUS the winner gets the coveted "Wounded Wally" trophy to keep for a year. Sheldon Erfle SS/PA won it last year.

Saturday night the MHDRA will be putting on a barbecue for the racers. Anybody who has attended in the past knows what a great meal it is. Remember there's no charge to you. It is a sponsored meal.

VERY IMPORTANT - There has been a change in the parking arrangements from previous years. (That's another story I'll tell you about sometime) This year it is first come first serve. If you have units over 60 feet, give me a call as they have an area set aside for this size of unit. They will start parking on THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

I hope those who have supported this race in the past will continue to do so and we encourage those that haven't to make the trip. It's great racing and a great time.

Email or phone me with your questions.

I am considering this because i've done ok in the three i went to.

It's about 800 miles each way so it's hard though.

What are the payouts going to be? The entry fee is so steep there is no way i could afford to double enter either, so i'm hoping it's good!

Despite the fact that my car is pretty much ready, it doesn't look like I'm going to make the trip.
I attended in 2005, getting teched for the first time. Controversy about my carbs, so the tech guy called NHRA head office to get confirmation from John Miller that my carbs had been accepted.
no problem
however, it was never put in writing.
Jim Skelly was following up on it this spring, but he's no longer with NHRA.
I contacted NHRA, attempting to get a letter or something.
I was told that unfortunately, John Miller was on holidays until after the weekend, and they had to wait for him. Advised to not bother attending Medicine Hat.
The way things are going, I may miss ONE MORE season.

Gawd, this is fun

Aubrey, if they let you run in 2005, they'll let you run this weekend. Just come out and have some fun.

Bob, after I was told about the carb approval problem, I gave up on making other preparations.

Still have this high RPM miss anyhow.
Did the new high volume fuel system. No difference.
Fattened up the jets. No difference ( except maybe lost a little horsepower ).
Ran it with the fan & water pump off. No difference.
On a hunch, took the 7200 rev limiter chip out of the 6AL box. Better !!??
Could it be that my original impression of the MSD phenomenon, was correct ?
Is it really all just a bunch of $#!& ?
Anyhow, I really don't feel like fooling with this car anymore.
The carb controversy is probably just an excuse.

You guys BE SURE to have fun though !

Aubrey.. Don't give up on that combo. Do the Medicine Hat race, then come out to Mission BC on Sept 08/09 for the Mega Ford event. Sure, I said Ford, but we're having a Nostalgia Super Stock class that allows all makes. We have a local 409 stick car attending, and yours would be real sweet to see. Plenty of good racers here that would be willing to help you with any problems. Anybody who is interested should check out our website. www.megafordweekend.com

Thank YOU, Dinsdale... though Medicine Hat is definitely out.
Made a complete fool of myself last time... many were laughing.
At least before, I could always count on the engine running flawlessly. Now it's got this high RPM "scatter" that is wasting my time... and it appears to be due to a bunch of "hallowed" "big bucks" ignition parts.

now...
Ford event ?
Maybe I could bring my Stock 35 3 window ? !
