Default Nhra entry

I know there logic with the pre-entry:
They want your money upfront. YES
More importantly they want an idea how many cars to expect for scheduling purpose, and parking.

Here is my questions
1) What would it hurt to reopen entry for 48 hours after the deadline in these low car count races.

2) What would it hurt to let a zero grade point driver in if field is not full.

THey could do it for 48 hours and that would still give plenty time for planning.

I'm not sour grapes here either I have a grade point and could get in if I wanted to.

48 hour pre-entry leaves a pretty tight window for NHRA to print everything up ahead of time...beauracracies are like that. In their defense though it sure is nice to roll right in and have them hand you a printed packet and then guide you to a good pit place which they've allocated space for based on entries. No doubt they are holding lots of money...good example is how much stock entry money they hold for Pomona, Maple Grove, Reading, Indy, etc. but at the same time there is SO much demand for some classes at specific markets that turning the gates open for entries would bring a bit of chaos. Regarding their entry policy, one instance where NHRA really scored points with me was how they allowed late withdrawals at Reading last fall due to the weather/track conditions.

Got on a NHRA defense roll there...who da thunk it?

It's pretty simple.....if you didn't need grade points to enter national events, then probably no one would run the divisional/Lucas races. So in a round about way, they force you to run the divisionals/Lucas races.

If they close entry on Monday. Even if they gave 24 hours notice, how many extra cars would thye get maybe 10-20. How long wold that take to process? 30 minutes. Come on.
What about the 0 grade points deal. If the field is'nt full???

Fred,
I agree with that philosophy but I would bet 90% of the racers would still go to the divisionals because of the less hassle.
I know my family loved going to the IHRA nationals when they had them, but I would much rather go to division races.

Hi Chip,

The only possible issue with letting drivers in with "0" grade points is that there might be racers that have never been down a dragstip prior to the National event.....

I always thought that a Divisional race was a good place to get trained about tech, scales, fuel check, ladders, etc.?????

But if a racer has been to events in the past, just not current, I see no problem with a "0" grade point entry.

Tony,

I thought that thread was about NHRA's policy of not allowing any sportsman class from competing at a National Event with "0" grade points?????

If not, my bad....
