9X30 Hoosier Radial-8"0r 10" Rim?
Can anybody tell me how much E.T. difference to expect in going to a 10" rim? 1991 Camaro I/SA. Trying to figure out if it is worth the dollars involved or if there is any other advantages if not E.T., tire wear or car reaction or?? Thanks J.R.

Interesting minds want to know...??? I have both rims, but have not really studied it and never back to backed it. Never had time or two sets of good tires at once.
thanks Ken |

"Interesting minds want to know...???"
That makes 3 of us!! Currently have 18209's on 8" wheels, and have been wondering if the $$$ to upgrade 10" is worth the expense.

Re: 9X30 Hoosier Radial-8"0r 10" Rim?
I've always heard that a wider rim will allow a little more air pressure while maintaining a flatter footprint. More air also reduces sidewall flex a bit which would help them last longer.
A narrower rim tends to allow a tire to "grow", but that wouldn't be as much of a factor with radials since they don't grow anywhere near as much as a bias ply slick. I saw that most stockers use 10" rims with 9" slicks, so that's what I've always run, with bias ply at first and radials ever since.

Re: 9X30 Hoosier Radial-8"0r 10" Rim?
In my experience the 8 inch rim hooks fine and is insignificantly faster, maybe 01 to.02 hard to measure but not slower.
The 10 inch rim in my opinion is not faster but hooks better than an 8 inch rim if your suspension is so so or you are on an iffy track. I have run the same 8 inch rim with both the big block and small block with no problems hooking. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks Joe!
Myron, when running bias, the wider rim did reduce growth roughly about a 1/4" on a MT 29.5x9 on my car... just enough to stop the top end rub. Ken |

Re: 9X30 Hoosier Radial-8"0r 10" Rim?
On my automatic car, 10" wheels were about 2hundredths quicker, and over 1/2 MPH faster than 8" wheels. Had to use 15/16 psi with the 8" wheels, over 20 with the 10" wheels. I was foot braking back then. It was a street legal with a 383" LT1, running high 9.90s/10.0s. Pretty steady at 1.32/1.34 in 60'.
With 8" wheels the outer 1/2" or so never fuzzed up, didn't look like that part had touched the ground. The car felt more stable with 10" wheels in the 9" tires. Also experienced "radial wobble" a few times. Putting everything on wider wheels since then. No radial wobble for about ten years now. When I had 10.5" tires, they liked 12" wheels. My present 13" X 31" radials like 14" wheels.
