Default Question

Has anyone ever raced a Mercury Marauder(newer 4 door version) in stock class? Does NHRA allow it? I don't see any listings for the Marauder or Grand Marquis. Would this be a viable combination?

Just some random, getting ready for winter, thinking.

I think the Maurader would be pretty cool! Just have to make sure FOMOCO has sent the proper paperwork to NHRA. Poses the same problems as the Mustang Cobra & that is working on the 4v engine, potential difficulties in tear down.

It was on the guide & it fell into K/SA I ran my wifes bone/showroom stock 03 & it ran 9.51 @ 75 mph 1/8th mile...it ripped the tires pretty good each pass too. the thing would BLAST my buddy's rumble bee Dodge truck too!! My wife traded it for a Mustang GT convertable...it's fun too

I can see it now. The Masked Maurader!
Are the Ford Crown Vics in the guide? I looked in 2001 and didn't see one listed.
I don't know what years the Maurader were produced. I see a maroon one parked in the parking lot at the golf course near my house, but I don't know much about them.

Wink Re: Question

the 03's were only Black in color & very few were made... something like less then 1000! we had one it was a great car & fun to drive BUT we bought it used about a year old & someone had played with a buffer on it! I t was so bad it look like someone had took 1000 grit sandpaper to it! Plus it was big & Marissa wanted a convertable so away it went...the plans are to buy one later on down the road. Her Mustang that we have now is an 03 with only 25,000 miles on it...it's like a new car & being a stick it's very FUN!

Default Re: Question

I want to thank all the racers and contributors to this, I posted it earlier and received very little response.

My reason is I am a Mercury fan(ie:CycloneFE), and after looking at the Seville that ran the KC Open it made me think about combo's. I know you guys and gals do that too. This is what I found and DIDN'T find.

* 2003 - Total: 7839 (327 Blue, 418 Silver, 7094 Black)
* 2004 - Total: 3213 (980 Dark Toreador Red, 997 Silver, 1236 Black)

4.6 DOHC 4 valve per cylinder, aluminum block and heads, FI, 9.9 to 1 CR, 302HP (same as the Mustang with a rated 10 to1 CR)

4200lbs curb weight, 4 link rear with coils.

Am I seeing something that I shouldn't?

What DIDN'T I find? NHRA's information on this combo.

What does it take to get them to look at this, BESIDES a letter from Carrol Shelby? It probably already has an aluminum radiator.

Thanks for the view and comment.

Greg,

Thanks for the "real world" account of the car's capability. I found a Marauder site that had time slips posted and all were 10.63 to 12.29 and ALL were supercharged and some even had nitrous added. I believe that the SC's were aftermarket and never a standard option. I did go a Mercury convention and I do have photos of ONE and only ONE Marauder convertible, 2 door that was supercharged. Beautiful car and I did beg the Mercury brass to please produce the car as a 2 door coupe and they promised to look at it, see where that got me.

Anyway I do think that a Stock class Marauder could easily give the power adders a run and be very competitive.

I put a supercharger on a friend's marauder a couple years ago w/ 4.10 gears and that thing ran low 13's with nothing else done. The motor is the same one they put in the Mach 1's in 03-04. I still have the upper and lower intake from the marauder we took off, if anybody is interested.
