Default Hardifer, Winfelder add names to first time winners at Cecil

The Mid Atlantic .90 Association concluded Race # 7 & 8 of its 2015 season at Cecil County Dragway in Northeast Maryland. At the conclusion of Saturday's time shots, Joey Cambria (Super Comp), Rich Price (Super Gas) and Kelli Barbato (Super Street) lead qualifying in their respected classes. Once eliminations got underway it would be a mixture of new and old faces gracing the winner's circle. In the Super Gas final, it was a battle of #1 & 2 in points as Earl Nichols Jr. and Iggie Boicesco squared off in yet another final. Nichols, out of Wilmington, Delaware claimed his second victory of the year with a perfect .000 light and a 9.920 to Boicesco's break out 9.896 to extend his points lead going into Sunday's event. In Super Comp, Bill Hardifer Jr. out of Shamong, NJ took his W&T Pipeline Consultants S&W Dragster to victory over Race #5 Runner-Up Frank Genovesi who jumped the gun with a red-light. This was Hardifer's first Super Comp victory with the series and moved him into the Top 5 in points. Rounding out Saturday's action was the 10.90 Super Street group. Jimmy Stack was running a limited schedule this season in the Livezey & Garbinski Challenger but, has taken every opportunity and ran with it. Race # 7 was no different and Stack found himself in the final yet again this time against first time finalist Levon Currie and his Mustang. In the final Stack & Currie were practically dead-even off the line (.026 to .025) but, it would be Stack claiming his first victory of 2015 with a almost perfect 10.904 to Currie's break-out 10.862.

Sunday carded yet another beautiful day for the racers at Cecil County and after the completion of qualifying it would be Kathy Smulligan (Super Comp), Tom Goldman (Super Gas) and Bob Kodadek (Super Street) claiming the number one spots in all three classes. As eliminations proceeded into the later rounds, drivers were going to have to tame a very tricky racing surface that had the sun beating on it all day long. In Super Street, current points leader Keith Mayers was looking for victory number three this season but, standing in his way yet again was Race # 7 winner Jimmy Stack. With a big swing in points at stake both drivers lined up for the finals. Unfortunately, the finals were decided on the line as Stack pushed the tree and went -.004 red, handing the victory to Mayers and his Porsche. In Super Comp, another new face graced the winner circle on Sunday as Randy Winfelder Jr out of Forest Hill, Md claimed victory. Winfelder did so by defeating Saturday's race winner Bill Hardifer in the process after Hardifer fouled at the start handing the victory to Winfelder and his "More Mechanized Madness" Spitzer Dragster. Finishing off the weekend at Cecil County was the 9.90 Super Gas group. Saturday's runner-up Iggie Boicesco was looking to make-up some ground on points leader Earl Nichols Jr. after Nichols bowed out in the first round. Boicesco, would find himself in yet another final at Cecil County after he recently won the Divisional event two weeks prior in his ATI sponsored Corvette. Standing in his way was Rich Price and his top-less Corvette. At the green Boicesco took the advantage (.013 to .025) and parlayed that into an almost perfect run with a 9.899 to Price's break-out 9.886. With the win it puts Boicesco only 1 point behind Nichols going into the final weekend of racing.
