Just an idea I've had rolling around in my narrow mind, for a couple months now, nothing in steel or aluminum , not yet anyway, Stewart.

Randall all single class cars run in the combo i.e. SS/MA vs GT/BA

If you goin that way, use the new high horsepower stuff. Using an old motor in a new car probably won't work well. This applies to DP, Copo and CJ bodies/engines. Showroom stuff is SS and GT.
? ?
I would have thought a new body with an old carbed engine would put it in the regular SS/GT classes.
I was thinking the engine is what dictated which group it runs in.

Any engine OR body that is used for GT classes and is a 2008 or newer COPO, Cobrajet, or Drag Pac must run Factory/GT. The reason I was told is because the engines are not sold as street legal. The bodies use a lighter shipping weight, have different hoods, and are not sold as street legal.

It is possible to run regular SS/GT with a 2008 or newer non COPO, Cobrajet, or Drag Pac body that started life as a regular (read as heavier) street legal car and is in the NHRA classguide.

At least that was the way it was explained to me by tech.

BBF, you are correct. Unfortunately only Mopar has applied and got put into the books some of the newer models. It would be great if Chevy and Ford got new showroom in the book. I think NHRA has encouraged them to get them sent in.
