Default Tire Wrap Up

Hi Guys, My Supergas car is wrinkling the slicks a lot. They are stiff sidewall Hoosiers. 33 x 17. Should I go up in the pressure a little ?. Car weight is around 2400 pounds. Running 5 1/2 psi in tires.
Cheers Patrick.

Hi Guys, Just an update. We have not had a chance yet to do any runs. I was doing some homework on my setup and went to check the tires I have on the car. When I purchased them the Hoosier website said they were stiff side wall, now the website did not say anything, so I emailed the guy I bought them from and he said they were just standard slicks. The part no. is 18400 33.0 / 16.0-15 Hoosiers. The catalouge that came with them shows an asterix next to the part no. to denote that they have a stiff side wall. Catalouge is 2013. Looks like they might be standard. Can I make these tires work for me or should I get a set of stiff side wall tires. What is the best brand ?. Car weight is 2400 pound sedan, BBC with powerglide. Approximately 900 hp. Was considering a set of Mickey Thompson's.
Thank you for any ideas you might have, Patrick.

Hi Guys, We ran the car last night. We tried 7 psi, 7 1/2 psi and 8 psi in the tires. I think the 7 1/2 may have worked the best , we showed a small improvement but come night time we started to lose reaction time and the car also got loose coming of the stop. Car spins the tire at the hit and then takes off. Looking at the video the tires are not wrinkling as much . Will try some higher pressures when we get a chance. We did have a different 4 link setting in the car . Has anyone ever set there 4 link real short like 40" or shorter ?. This car seems to like a shorter 4 link setting. Is it important to have the intersection point on the antisquat line or not ?. car weight 2450 with approx 52 1/2 percent on rear.
Thanks Patrick.

How do you have it set up now? 40" is very short. Usually a bar that short will hit the tire hard, but not keep it planted. If your in that range now, that may be a lot of your problem. Wheel base? Crank centerline? All that makes a differance.

Hi Chuck, we have tried several with 40" being the best and yes it gets loose at night if there is dew on the track. Have not gone any shorter , can set shorter and on the antisquat line. Wheelbase is 104" and crank centreline is 9 1/2" , car is an ex prostock Beretta. Not a lot of options available as pro cars generally run the intersection points low. Car hits the tires harder at 40" but we were running the pressure a little lower back then so I think we have gained a little . Car originaly was 49" and about 4 1/2" drove good but would not react. Car was set up with 45" and 7" last night.
Thanks Patrick.

My car has a 105" wheel base with only 49% on the rear and I usually carry 20-25 numbers in my delay box and have had as many as 50. Your bar is way short. Mine is around 56" and 5.5 to 6" off the ground. I need to look at my notes to verify the exact number, but I know it's around there. If your struggling to cut a light, you should also move the engine up. Yours is very low.
