Firebird Raceway....Future??
I heard some rather disturbing news today about one of our local drag strips.
Rather than spreading unsubstantiated rumors ,I figure I'll let someone else do it. What ya got??

Re: Firebird Raceway....Future??
I have not heard anything. I do a signifigant amount of advertising with Firebird and I know that it is solvent as far as i can tell you. Yes the indians want to build another casino but it would not benefit them as it would be too close to wild horse pass. Speedworld on the other hand is on the ropes as far as insurance goes. Look at the facility there. I have heard that it will be up for insurance renewal and it does not look good. Right now our most promising track is tucson and its IHRA now. Anyone wanna open up Beeline???

I thought I'd heard some time ago that Firebird was being considered for replacement, and that the future of the National Event there was up in the air? Last edited by Jeff Kempton; 02-17-2011 at 11:40 AM. Reason: Reworded for clarity |

Re: Firebird Raceway....Future??
First, there is so much open Indian land around Firebird and Casino why would you tear up the dragstrip to put in another Casino? Down the pike a short distance in Casa Grande is also a Casino. Can the area support another one?? I don't know.
Speedworld is a nice local track but, it is nowhere the size of Firebird. And I think couldn't support a national event just from a size perspective. As far as I know, Bee Line Dragway still exists, let the excavating begin!!!

Re: Firebird Raceway....Future??
Beeline is still there. The tower still stands. but everything is so far gone. It is also on Indian Rez I believe. Plus the top end of the track has been taken up with a small RV park and Skeet shooting range.
That will SUCK if we loose Firebird. I am heading out tomorrow for the Div.7 Opener. That is just about my favorite event of the year. I missed it last year because I had a blow out on my truck on the way out there. I had better enjoy it allot then. Might be the last time. Speedworld is so cool because of it's size. It is an old track built in the 60s and it has not changed much over the years. It shut down once in the late 70s then reopened in 1988. It was Phoenix Raceway Park. I think that it might have a problem with the insurance because of the close confines of the track. To me it is the greatest drag strip in the world. But It is very outdated. But that is what is so beautiful about it. I loved it when the Division 7 opener was held there. If we loose both of these race tracks. It is going to SUCK here. It will give me more incentive to move as I am planning on it. |

Re: Firebird Raceway....Future??
It would really be a bummer if Firebird closed. I was really bummed out when they closed Manzanita Speedway. That place was there since the end of WWII. When you loose a track you almost will never get a replacement. There is a guy operating a Moto-Cross and sand drag facility on Ironwood south of the 60. I'm not sure but it might be Apache Junction. I wish he would put in a dragstrip. Plenty of space. Not sure if he is on Indian land though.

Re: Firebird Raceway....Future??
Dear Kenny,
I work out at Speedworld as race director and had to investigate this rumor. Just to clear the air Speedworld deals with 3 insurance carriers and paid with certificates until the end of 2011. After everyone has a chance to read this could you please remove your comment about Speedworld as it spreads rumors that get out of proportion and make for a false negative future. Quote:
