hi, I am in the middle of restoring a duster ss/ia car , this is the RIDDLER 7 car looking at the pics of the car that I have it looks like a 10" slick but i think 9" is the widest it will take without modifying the wheel house , I cant tell from the pics ,can any one tell what the rules would of allowed 1972 in ss/IA any help would be great thanks DAN

I ran a 11.5 in 73 in SS,I believe 72 was the year stockers moved to SS.There may have been a 12" limit.Maybe someone here can remember. gsa612

I have a 72 rulebook it says Tires SS ' any - will fit original wheel wells . Internal wheel well mods permitted ' no numbers given. ---Trevor

I did the 9" tire test for Firestone December 1971 at Gainesville and went quicker compared to the 11.5" with my SS/GA 1969 Mustang. I won SS/GA class at Pomona and during time trials ran 11.28 on the 11.43 record with 9" slicks. Firestone ran out of 9" slicks. I raced Mark Collitti the first round and broke out with an 11.327 hard on the brakes. You were allowed to go .10 under the record but there was no break out in the final.

My SS/IA 71 Duster through out the 70's ran a 10.5 x 30 Tire with just offset
hangers and no wheel tubs without any problem..Like I posted before wheel offset is critical!
