Default Scammer WARNING

Beware of the scammers on the loose!
I posted an ad on Class racer and racing junk for a metric trans for sale.
I got a text this morning at 3:18 AM inquiring if I still had it.
I responded that it was still for sale.
After another inquiry on condition, and my response....the scam text appeared.
I'll include it "as written" so you all can get the flavor of how the scam is run.
"Would you accept a check? I'll be responsible for the pickup and the movers/pickup money will be included in your payment to avoid delays. I'll add an extra $20 so you could keep it in my favor. I'll need your name and address to mail the check. Please let me know as I am very much interested".

My response: Call me and we can discuss.
Their response: "I'm at the base at the moment, i'll not be able to call you. I intentionally beg my Commanding Officer to allow me stay online expecting your text I even asked him if I can make a call with the base telephone but he refused if not I would have call you all this while. Do bear with me.

My response: Not interested in dealing with you.

Is there a place/process to report these scams?

You will also get these replies on Craigslist - I get one every few days. First they will text or e-mail you. Then when you reply "Call Me" They are always -working out of the Country, on an oil platform, etc. where they can't talk to you! But they will pay you by Certified Check (undoubtly worthless but will take a couple of weeks before your bank finds out and notifies you) and will have a shipper handle the pickup.
Whenever I get one I text CALL and when they start the story I delete both messages and move on!

Most times they want you to hold it because they are getting ready to go out to sea so they'll send a carrier to pick up. Now when they initially tell me they'll make arrangements....I reply with "let me guess, your getting ready to go out to sea?". They usually won't respond then.

I have had the same issue with Racing Junk listings. I received texts to my phone number expressing interest and movers would come pick it up. When we were selling the GXP on RJ, a "father" called and said he would buy it for his son who was "out at sea" as a surprise upon his return. All he wanted was for me to establish a PayPal account.
Truly a "seller" beware environment.

Unless you know the person, cash, in person, or get lost. End of conversation.

And having something in your pocket, or a friend covering your back, is a good idea also!
