Or maybe you mean Ed or Jeff Merkel. From New Jersey. They were Ford racers back in the seventies.

Re: Merkel
Jack Merkel used to be in Ridgewood, Queens, NY. There's a Merkel Racing Engines in Hauppaugge, NY which may be the successor company.
http://www.merkelracing.com/ Jack always did excellent work, and held many NHRA gasser records back in the day. Lew

Re: Merkel
Jeff had a Montego wagon, (with a FE motor of course) that he ran in stock in the mid seventies. To this day it is my favorite stocker. His Dad Ed was one of the nicest people I have ever met, RIP.

I knew them both and they were fun guys. Especially Jeff "Slack" as he was called. My ex-wife worked as a bartender in a place Ed frequented regularly...... I don't know where Jeff is...maybe Florida. Ask Pat Iacono or maybe Michael....

Re: Merkel
Thanks for all the info guys... I was thinking Jack, but he had contact numbers in both NJ and NY... I've pointed the guy in the direction of Merkel Racing Engines in LI, NY as their website has a lot of Ford stuff on it... Thanks again...

Re: Merkel
Big Ed Merkel won the 1977 SummerNationals with his 1969 F/SA Montego over Bill Quinn F/SA 1967 Camaro. Jeff was runnerup to your and Ray Cooks car Art as you likely remember well.
