Batteries
I am needing to buy new batteries for the race car. I previously used 16V but am thinking of going back to 12V. What batteries out there stand up to the type of abuse drag racers inflict upon them? Any suggestions? Thanks

Re: Batteries
For 12 volt the Optima red top worked good for me. I would get 2-3 seasons from a battery. Why go back to 12 v?

Re: Batteries
If you've used 16 volt batteries before you must also have the charger, I second Mikes question...why would you go back to 12 volts? I've used the same XS Power batteries since 2007, never had an issue. I have a few people I know that have had issues with other brands, but not sure if was the batteries fault or improperly maintaining them.

Re: Batteries
For the money and the weight, keep in mind I weigh 300, the garden tractor battery works well from Walmart. I change it out each year. Yes my alternator works very well!

Re: Batteries
I did the same in the past but used a very small car battery. I was afraid of the lawn tractor battery. No alternator but charged after each round. The small battery worked well. It was dying after a season and I put a regular battery back in. I am not as big as Larry but not small at all. 240+-

Re: Batteries
I had an Optima red top in my car for 8 years. Don't know if Eric still has it. I always kept it on a good battery tender in between races and all winter. Also had the engine on a block heater all winter. Your results may vary.

Re: Batteries
Thanks for the responses. I know that there are plenty of racers who run fast using 12V systems. I was primarily looking at the expense. Since the battery sits almost over the rear wheels in the Corvette weight is not an issue. I think I am going with the 16V XS.
