Micro Polishing Crank ?

Legal to do in stock and any HP benefits? Company in AZ just started up.

We have done so for 40 years.
I would not think much if any HP benefit you can find.
It might help bearing life a bit.
It can not hurt to at least to use a worn belt and shine it
up the best you can = without removing much metal.

It depends. If they are doing the Micronite or the Omicron finish like Shaftech does, on the whole crankshaft, it is not legal in regular Stock.

Yes, there may be some power because it sheds the oil off the crankshaft. When it is allowed by the class rules, I use the Omicron finish from Shaftech. When I take the engines apart that have the finish, they are almost dry because the oil does not adhere.

This is the way a crankshaft with the Omicron or Micronite finish looks.

Brings up a good point. With sufficient quality oil the parts do not touch anyway.....we hope. I have experience with an alky fc where we missed the tune and could “mash” a bearing .060” wider at the bottom of the bearing than its stock width measure at the parting line without blackening them. Hence the oil never gave up doing its job and working overtime. If anything,
polishing gives you justification of cost when it’s prettier. BTW: I don’t miss 60 and 70wt oil in my hair between rounds.

You are correct about the bearing journals; they operate on a hydrodynamic film of oil and should never touch.

The Micronite and Omicron surface finish helps the rough surfaces of the crankshaft, making them smoother and polished. The process consists of placing the part in a vibratory tumbler, with a specific media and run it for a specific amount of time. It also helps camshafts, lifters, connecting rods, valve retainers and valve springs.

Out of curiosity, what is a ballpark cost to have a crank done with the Omicron or Micronite finish? A non aftermarket crank.
