12 Bolt Axle advise
Looking for some advise, I am building a 72 Chevelle big block, automatic, non trans-brake bracket car that has a stock 12 bolt rear end. I have a set of new 33 spline Strange Axles for 67-69 camaro (29 inches long) that i got for my old 68 camaro years ago but never installed. These axles are 1/2 inch shorter than for a Chevelle. The axles go into the spool 1 1/2 inches. My question, is this enough? Do I buy new axles for the extra 1/2 inch? Anyone have a set to trade?

Give Strange a call for their opinion, but I think as long as your engagement length is equal to the diameter of the axle, you should be OK. You might get more spline wear over time, but you can inspect that .

Personally I would shorten up the housing and take advantage of the additional clearance you will gain on the quarter panel inner lip, with the shorter axle. Check how much room you have between backside of tire and frame with the tires and wheels you will be using. Maurice.

Re: 12 Bolt Axle advise
Use a 12 bolt housing from a 64-67 chevelle, they are shorter than the 72 housing and your axles will work just find. J. Gower M/S 3058
