Default Issues with my Stocker in need of a carb

I was running 45-55 under at the begining of the year then all of a sudden I lost 4 tenths. I have replaced the trans, converter, and had the engine refreshened by Jeff Taylor still have not got back my 4 tenths. I am at a loss for where it went.

I am now looking for a Quadrajet 750 CFM for my Olds 307.

Anyone have one that I could try or buy to see if thats the issue?

The car is just not pulling like it used to and we've checked multiple converters so that's not the issue. The rear end is clean nothing wrong there either. The Carb is the last place to check that I know of.

shoot me an email if you have anything that may help pjfouts@yahoo.com. I will be running st.louis divisional hopefully this weekend since I still cant qualify just slow is all.

Thanks,

PJ

PJ,

For starters, the 307 takes the larger 800 cfm carb. Next, I'd look for bad grounds.

Did you check your valve lash and timing? Also make sure the distributor is locked down. I don't see the carb losing 4 tenths unless the air and fuel passages have something blocking them. Metering rod on the hanger??

Have you checked amt of fuel being pumped at the carb? Timing is possible. Check for chassis bind. Does it do burn out straight and drive straight.

PJ, just a couple more items to check. How old is the battery, I've seen seasoned veterans pull the engine for a rebuild only to find out it was the battery. Do you run a MSD .? It could be giving you problems. Lastly, pull the fuel line at the carb and tell me how many seconds it takes to fill a gallon jug. For your application you should be filling the jug in under 30 seconds. Remember, it's all about the Wally !!"........M.J.

I would change MSD box, coil and do like MJ suggested with the fuel flow. Check to make sure brakes are free. I will be at Bowling Green pts. race if you need to try on of my spare carbs.

Pj check the line between the pump and the fuel cell it's the only one in the system that has vacuum on it and after some time the inside of the hose collapses and the outside look fine had this issue a few years ago and it was hurting mine 4tenths and it wasn't missing.
