Transmissions
Was just wondering if you can change transmissions from a 4 speed auto to a 3 speed as long as it's the same manufacture that the car had . Or from a stick to an auto . In the stock classes.

Re: Transmissions
Never heard of going from a 4 speed to a 3 speed stick?
You can do it if you want ..with a Doug Nash /Richmond style box..Nobody's gonna count the shifts you make. You CANNOT convert to an automatic in Stock, if the combo was stick shift only from the factory. In other words...NO 69 Z 28 automatics.......(yet)

Re: Transmissions
I was thinking about going from a AOD to a C4 and taking the 5 speed manual out . Because it's a turbo car it should launch better of the convertor when it's making boost . I could be all wrong . It must be hard on the clutch to make boost against the brakes . Is anyone doing that ?

Re: Transmissions
NHRA doesn't count OD as a gear so swapping an overdrive trans for a 3 speed of the same manufacturer is perfectly legal in stock....

Yes, you can build SOME boost while on the two step with a stick shift turbo car.

Re: Transmissions
The great thing with the automatic is the ability to load the engine up at the line.
I have tried both loading my turbo 4 cyl. against the convertor ( without pushing thru the beams) and also just footbraking up to the point of pushing thru the brakes with zero boost. There is a world of difference on the feel at launch between the two.
