.90 dead on extra money
Just curious but I thought anytime NHRA had a .90 class if a racer went .900 there was an extra pot of money paid out. Is this true?

I believe it was either $250 or $500 for the first to go dead-zero on a winning run in each class at a national event. If nobody did it at an event, that money rolled into the class bonus for the next event.

Re: .90 dead on extra money
So I assume that they no longer do this?

Re: .90 dead on extra money
Unfortunately NHRA succeeded in pissing off Strange and loosing their support of the Perfectly Strange Award program .
The program only awarded money at National events. $250 base money, doubled if you had Strange product and it rolled over to following races if no one hit it . Back when .900's were more difficult to achieve ,it reached several thousand dollars at times. I hit it at two national events at Maple Grove . Divisional races got you a hat from Strange but no money , Got a bunch of them , also a bunch from Federal Mogul and TRW from when they sponsored the program ,although there was no money awarded when they were involved. TRW even used to give us cool belt buckles for an award. I'm always grateful for the support Strange gave the Super classes.

Re: .90 dead on extra money
I have kept the Perfectly Strange decals on my car.
I won their awards several times and appreciate their support to this day. NHRA has a history of killing good and popular programs for the sportsman racers and this is one of the good examples. Just My 2 Cents Rick Cates Canyon, TX |

Re: .90 dead on extra money
I should mention ,Here in Division 1 , Tom Stalba's AA Auto Salvage sponsors a program that rewards the first perfect pass in the .90 classes at Division 1 LODRS RACES , King/Queen of the Track .
Tom puts up $500,[which according to the D1 website is being upped to $1000 for 2021] which the seasons winners compete for later in the year in a Bogie format during time runs. Tom certainly deserves a show of appreciation for his sponsorship of this program.
