I bracket race but a lot of my competition is from NHRA legal S-SS cars. I have it after the regulator under the hood. I've seen it done on the cheep with hardware store fittings and $100 billet aluminum stuff that leaks. Long story short: if it's in the book, you need it. Checking it is up to the tech.

The problem with commercial fittings is that they may leak because the seal or "O" ring material may not survive when exposed to fuel and if you have an EFI system, they may not hold the higher fuel pressure.

If you have an EFI fuel system, that exceeds 60 PSI of fuel pressure, then you need the Aeromotive Sampling valve.

The Saf-Air fuel sampling valves are FAA approved and used in general aviation and affordable and even sold with a hose by RJ Race Cars. They have a brass and stainless steel version and have Viton seals.

Its really handy to have a way operate the fuel pump from the engine compartment, not required just handy. I use a momentary switch wired to the pump that I installed on the fender apron.

Is the switch wired directly to the pump, bypassing the ignition switch?
The rule book specifies that the fuel pump must shut off with car’s ignition switch.

It’s a dedicated switch that operates the pump independently of the ignition switch.

I have the same, very handy, make sure to use a momentary switch. I don;t have a return line on the pressure regulator, so I use that outlet and hooked up brass fittings and a brass shutoff used for an icemaker line.

I use a fuel shut of for a Motorcycle. The type that screws into the bottom of the gas tank. It’s the same pipe thread as the outlet port of the regulator. Put a length of rubber hose on the barbed end.
