Default What Flexplate?

Have any of you had any experience with the Summit or Jegs SFI Flexplates? I need to get a new one for my 582 BBC and was just shopping around.

Thumbs up Re: What Flexplate?

Spend the extra money and buy a Meziere True Billet Flexplate for your BBC.

I second that. Once you start getting up in HP the cheaper SFI flexplates will flex to much has damage to converter hubs. Get the Mez. and never look back

I've had good luck with Hughes. 1185 HP and never broke or had to re-shim starter

I've been using the Meziere, but have used one up.. starter alignment is very key in flexplate life.. just cause it sounds right, doesn't mean it's really right..

I was also just old about a new flexplate and starter drive gear set from ATI, that has been getting good reports.. the only draw back is that you will have to buy extra drive gears for your spare starters, should you have to replace a starter during a race...

Can't beat the Meziere for durability . ...Mine is on it's third recert and still looks new.
More expensive ,yes, but not by that much considering how tough it is and its nearly 100% explosion proof.
All other flexplates ,regardless of manufacturer have a ring gear that is butt welded together and is welded on . ...If the ring gear weld does not have a weld across it attaching it to the disc it's a potential failure point .
I have personally seen several fail this way.
Charlie , I just had a friend send me pictures of a new ATI flexplate that had daylight showing between the ring gear and the plate between the welds.
How round do you think that ring gear was ? !
Bottom line is do you want a $100 piece of possibly Chinesium steel between your $20Kplus engine and your $1200 converter .

WOW!!.. I was told that ATI has a billet plate.. different tooth count, and a drive gear that is like an inch across.. haven't seen one yet.. but that one you referred to is definitely a red flag...

Meziere also has a special "10-Pitch" flexplate/starter combo that's supposedly stronger. The only issue is if you mix the combos up.
