sooty oil?
What is the cause of this? This is fresh oil with six 1/8 mile test hits. Amsoil 10 40. The oil looks black. the picture is right as I tilt the bucket to one side and let the oil flow to the side. You can see all this soot in the oil. Is it contamination from blow by as I did have a cylinder leaking down. I was just running e85 for the first time.

Re: sooty oil?
Being no one answered my suggestion would be to get a sample and have it annualized.
When I use to deal with Black Bear in Farmingdale they'd run samples, no charge. Also you could ask at Motorworks, Sunrise Highway, Amityville if they'd do it for you. That's all I have! |

Re: sooty oil?
Did you run a break in oil prior to putting the Amzoil in? Some of them, such as Driven BR will leave traces of dark oil suspension.

Re: sooty oil?
If you read into my first post I said I had a cylinder leaking down. I did the test and found I had a problem. Pulled the head and had gouges in the cylinders causing the leak down. So when I drained the oil I found the sooty stuff in it. I just wanted to confirm it was combustion contamination in the oil. So I torn the motor down and will be pulling it shortly. I am in the process of building a new LS motor so timing was kind of ok in a messed up way.
