Default Competition Number Size

I’m surprised that nobody has posted yet on this weeks NHRA Racer Update on Competition Numbers. No comments – questions, hate or rants. So let’s see what we can get going here.

I’ve watched with interest as the size and general visibility of Comp Numbers has gotten smaller and smaller over the years. And we have all seen examples of “wow that’s hard to read” Comp Numbers because of the size or color. And I just figured the staff in the towers must be using binoculars. I even down sized mine last year figuring smaller was OK.

But based on this NHRA communication it isn’t OK. Has anybody been warned on this? Anybody plan to change?

And Travis, how about an opinion on what we may expect in the Tech lines.

A friend of mine was made to replace his at the Epping national. His was very legible but a little small on the front windscreen. Absolutely had nothing to do with the fans as stated in the tech article, they don't watch us anyway, lol

The newer cars have smaller side windows, with 6" tall letters it makes it hard to see the guy you are racing. If you run a new FSS/GT class and put those numbers by your 6" tall car number you pretty much fill up the available space.

I'm pretty sure Beard is behind this, trying to stir up some business lol! I don't recall the last time I saw any 6" letters.
I'll be shooting you an email in the next few days on what I need Michael!

Just checked that as it's on my short list. 6 inches high and 1.5 inches wide minimum. Going to get crowded on the side window on my 68 coup. Can the numbers be on the B pillar? The one behind the window?

I'd place the blame for this on Michael Beard and his $100 name and number package. I've seen his Flaming Numbers special on bracket cars and S/ST. Just kidding, but I think some people get a bit too artsy with numbers.

As for no one paying attention, I rely on window numbers to identify and properly credit racers when I take my camera out to the drags. That and the entry list that I usually steal...

Then there's people like Jody Lang who lets his girl friend drive his super stocker and has the tower playing "Who's in that car?" when he's standing next to it.

The size of the Competition Numbers and Class decals are specified in the NHRA rule book.
I was able to get the 6" Competition Number, 3" Class and 1 1/2" name on my door glass with no issues.
I was not aware that this rule was not enforced, as I had some issues with the sign shop getting the size and quantity correct.

It's not me. I'm weeks behind as it is.

Incised is a popular block font. At 6" tall, it comes out 25.5" wide. Think about that! If there is an issue with a particular driver's decals, then take it up with that driver. I design decals to be clear and legible. Common sense is dead.
