Default current think, new engine start up oil

This is, of course, a dedicated, trailered, drag car with roller cam and moly rings. The hone work is correct for the ring package.

What is the current thinking/experience for oil in ref to first start and first runs at the track? How many runs before changing the startup oil?

I've used non detergent NAPA 30 wt. as a startup oil with good results. Usually changed at the track after a pass.

most any non detergent single weight oil will work-MAKE SURE THE OIL HAS LOTS OF ZINC OR USE A ZINC ADDITIVE ---one easy pass to get everything seated--2nd pass a little more aggressive to about the 1/8 --3rd pass real aggressive to the 1000 foot --then after every pass you have checked for leaks ,valve lash , jetting, timing etc. and everything appears to be OK and the car goes straight and shifts & stops etc. change the oil put in a new filter etc.----LET ER RIP---FED 387

I have had good luck with Driven BR oil . Just use it to breakin on the dyno and a few of the power pulls on the dyno , Then I drain it out , cut the filter apart for inspection , refill with my normal Driven racing oil and make a couple of power pulls and if all is good , it goes in the car .

I have been using the driven br30 for 11 years and have had great success with it ,most impressive is how quick the engine seals up with it , best I’ve found so far
