What head would you run on a SC 615?
I’m currently running a conventional head BBC in an 18 Racecraft and it is doing fine but I’m thinking of building a 12 degree raptor head 615. What are your thoughts? Pros or cons if you have run them or worked with someone that has.
Or would you build a 20 degree head still a 615” tall deck? Thanks in advance

Re: What head would you run on a SC 615?
Hello Mike,
Since no one chimed in so far...... We have run the full spectrum of BBC heads over the years on our Super Comp cars, beginning with a 468 with some Winters foundry heads in 1990, up to today with 648" engines with 12°heads. Our 12° Raptor headed engines have always run strong. We are currently running a 20° engine in one car as an experiment, can't say its a lot faster than a 12° headed engine but it is alleged to be more durable valvetrain wise. We have broken an occasional intake rocker arm on the 12° engines ( the wide offset ones) after 300 plus runs and now have them re-bodied at some interval. Just my .02 See you at the races, Wayne Kerr |

Re: What head would you run on a SC 615?
Wayne, thank you for the info. I bought an SR20 598 this week that I will freshen and put in this fall after I get the season over. I don’t want to start over with a new combo at the middle of the year. I thought about the 12 degree stuff and it might run slightly better I couldn’t warrant the extra cost for the little bit of power over the 20* stuff.
Everyone I know with the 20* head likes it and they make good power.

Regan, the engine was originally from Sunset I’m told but don’t know whose program the heads were ported with. Will know more after Tulsa when I get it and take it apart.
