86 4.3 v6 with Jerico transmission.
Indy horsepower was 155. After factoring it's at 182 and natural r/s. What other info do you want? |

If it is not top secret, what kind of horse power does one of these 4.3's make. BTW ya gotta love a truck! Don Jackson.

If you want to get an idea, consider that it weighs around 3500 lb and ran around 100 mph at Indy. There are websites with formula calulators that will attached a hp figure to those numbers. Not exact, but at least give you a lower limit. Oh, and consider that it has all the aerodynamics of a UPS truck.

Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
Will, thanks for the heads up on the article. Compared to the other racers in the article I should be listed on the back page under the heading of "other racers that have raced a six cylinder". Perry, Ambrose,Daniels, Ingersoll, and the rest are great racers. I have to admit that Garley Daniels and Gary Jennings have been a big help since we first built the truck.
The truck has a clutch and flywheel system recommend by Gene Bichlmeier: big heavy flywheel, McLoud softlock clutch, and a deep gear in the back. Make et on the low end 'cause its not going to do it on the top end. Engine is a back yard bullet with help from CP, Total Steal, Chris@ Comp, John@ Bullet, Bridges, Marshal, Van Lant, and Wingo. Machine work by Frank @ Tommy's Truck prep and clutch linkage by Gary Jennings, he is quite the craftsman. Brain trust and coaches: Jennings, Danny Byrd, Keven Helms, and Jim Schaechter. Race pack computer tutor: Randy Eakins Hp of the V6 just a little north of 320. Last edited by Larry Hill; 04-05-2015 at 08:10 AM. |
