Default 1976 mopar hp factor

The 1976 318-2V Plymouth is rated at 140/150. Looked at the blueprint guide and all the specs are the same. The bottom line is that they have been refactored the same. Why is there a difference ?

76 to 80 318 140 = 2 Barrel Not real fast

78 to 80 318 150 = Thermoquad 4 barrel Real Fast!

We have raced them both.

I think the question is ..Why does the factory have two ratings for the same engine?

Answer : Don't worry about it. You're gonna have enough trouble making it run @190

California versions were rated at 140, rest of the US rated at 150. Functionally for stock eliminator they are the same since all the major blueprint specs are the same and the Technical Bulletins bear this out. The difference was in the tuning via ignition, primarily governed by the introduction of the Lean Burn system that was introduced that year. Of course, CA had stricter emissions standards which translated into a less efficient engine package and thus the lower hp.
