Re: Can a slick be patched or plugged?
Bias or radial slicks, it don't matter. The only slicks I've run for the past 11 years are radial slicks and I've run more than one with a plug for over 50+ passes in quick/high HP cars.

Re: Can a slick be patched or plugged?
I plugged a M/T radial stocker tire and had no probelms with it. Used a std fast plug kit and made the next round after finding a tire going down in the lanes.
Took the tire off and redid the pug with a mushroom type plug and used a red vulcanizing sealer from the inside. Wore those tires down to the cords....never was any problem.... I would not hesitate to just use the gooey std twisted style red plugs....Once they set in there they seem to last fine even in the thin tread....

Re: Can a slick be patched or plugged?
Thank you for all of the information. We are going to put a plug patch in it today and see how it works.

Re: Can a slick be patched or plugged?
I have used plugs on my Hoosier slicks a few times. No issues but I always replaced them at the end of the season afterwards.

Re: Can a slick be patched or plugged?
Larry, I have plugged many slicks and the only one I had trouble with was a slick someone brought to me with the cords showing. I use only the rubber "umbrella" plugs. They require a special gun and come in two diameters; I use the 3/8" size. The gun is used to extrude the seal into the tire, the umbrella opens inside the tire and is pulled onto the inside suface of the tread when the gun is removed. Works great! I bought it at NAPA and I keep it in my glove box for places like Maple Grove.
