Jim,

Per the NHRA rule book ( as you have made reference to ) we do not allow the use of external oil lines on a Super Stock engines. except for the accumulator, remote oil filter and a pick up line from the pan to the oil pump on a bb Mopar.

Do a lot of other engines have the oil pump mounted
external to the engine block where they would need one?

That is interesting, to say the least. I was unaware of the ruling for BB Mopars. Obviously this will all the engines to sit lower in the chassis. Will help with the balance...

There is no ruling for BB Mopars. It was a question in general that would apply to all engines of all makes. I had e-mailed some people asking about oil lines, didn't get a response from anyone, so I e-mailed NHRA about a clarification and posted it here. They sent me e-mails then, all requested me to pull the original post.

Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge. Say no more squire, SAY NO MORE! [Eric Idle, Monty Python reference]

PS: I think the AMC engines have an external oil pump. But I didn't say that.
