Default Carguy49's Road Trip

I had first posted this info on the thread about the passing of Bill Edgeworth, but decided to remove it out of respect for that thread.

The official title of our trip is "Joan and Ron's Bucket List Road Trip." We have been trying to get this trip to happen for about a year. Things kept changing our plans so here we go now.

Several people know but many don't know about my wife's health issues. To make it short she has bone cancer. She is responding well to treatments and is doing well right now.

We have a 17 day window so have plans for FUN and adventure for each day. The trip will take us on a 3500 mile journey seeing many sights along the way. Included on our list are Grand Coulee Dam, Wall Drug, Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Bedrock City in Custer, Wyoming and many, many more.

Don't miss the exit for Wall Drug, there aren't too many hundreds of signs.

Well here it departure day. Just wanted to thank all who have responded to this thread. Several hundred have viewed it and that is cool.

Keith we are doing this trip unplugged so no live updates. If we get a chance while in the Rapid City area, might do an update, but don't hold your breath. We are going to take hundreds of pictures and keep a written journal of our trip. With some help will post an account of our trip when we get back.

I think we will have no problem finding Wall Drug, but loved the picture of the sign for it in Antarctica.

This trip will be slow and steady. My wife just turned 63 and I am coming up on 66 quickly. Hoping to be able to act like young, silly people, but have necessary medications with us just in case.

Our hearts will definitely be with the crowd at Bill Edgeworth's service Saturday afternoon. I already miss talking to that guy.

Well, here it is the 7th already. We did a little sightseeing on the way and got to Rapid City late Sunday. Saw some light snow out side of Butte and some light rain in a couple of spots. Oh, when we got up one morning it was 34 degrees, kind of cold, HUH.

On Monday we saw Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Very cool, but was foggy at Crazy Horse. My wife had never seen either of these, so was very impressed. Mt. Rushmore has changed dramatically in the 25 years since I had seen it.

On Tuesday we drove out to Wall Drug and spent a few hours looking at all the stuff (had some homemade pie there)and then went down to the Badlands National Park. Neither of us had seen that attraction so we spent some time and took several pictures.

Today we begin our journey back west. So first we will stop in Sturgis and take some pictures and then on to Devil's Tower. Who knows what else we will stop and see. Kind of just going where the wind blows or, if we see a sign and like it, we go to that.
We are having a ball and the weather, overall, has been very good.

Well that is it for now. I am sure I have forgotten something, but we keeping very good log of our trip and will let you all know more when we get back, whenever that will be.
