Default Starter heat shield

What do you use for a starter heat shield or blanket?

One of the best things you can do is install a slave starter solenoid on away from engine heat and eliminate the small wire to the starter.

Or this: https://www.painlessperformance.com/wc/30201.

Ive had a relay to the starter on my 68 for over 25 years, and we hot lapped it a bunch over those years.

I've run a remote solenoid but never for heat problems. I never understood how a remote solenoid did anything for heat since you're still having to use the starter mounted solenoid. If it's a GM product you should always have a relay or remote solenoid just to take the load from your NS switch, those micro switches are not made to carry the amperage load of a GM starter.

Ok- there are three advantages of running a slave solinoid on a go.

1- Does away with small wire going down to starter that can burn against header
2- Keeps voltage off of the battery cable going from slave to lower solenoid.
3- most importantly the solenoid on the starter works much better with full voltage provided by a 10 gauge jumper from battery post to start terminal overcomming heat related issues.

The smaller starters with the solenoid on the bottom or off to the side make things a lot better. In the old days, I would wrap the solenoid with a rolled piece of aluminum, secured with a hose clamp..Plus the factory starter shield.
Are you having a problem ,Randy?

Thanks for the info, I have a remote solenoid, the starter is close to the header, and it is 10 years old, I bought a new starter and a heat shield, hoping that will work.

Thanks
