Default Claiming a different year than the VIN

How close does NHRA tech dept look at the VIN tag on the car during tech?
I have a 1977 Camaro that I am planning to run as a 1975 but I am wondering if I could get nailed for claiming it incorrectly. The outward features of the car would be identical unless the tech guy decided to look at the VIN tag.

Thanks,

Chad

Close is good enough in the "new" NHRA.As long as it remotely resembles the correct year you're probably be good.
I was told stories about back when Farmer was around. He told a guy to come back with a Pontiac that was missing the clock in the dash.
I think todays tech guys, with some exceptions, aren't quite up on the visual characteristics
of the cars in the rule book. Not a knock on them, that knowledge comes with years of experience. The tech guys I've dealt with do a great job trying to control the "crafty"
shenanigans going on in our sport. If left to really do their jobs I think we would be racing under fairer conditions.
Just the opinion of a bored, retired bum.

They don't check the VIN tag. Good tech guys know if a car is right for what is being claimed, if you're claiming a car is a particular year, and it is near identical, it'll almost always go through. But make absolutely certain what you are claiming is legit. If you cross it up, they'll catch it, and out you go.

They had to by order of GM Legal when the cars were scraped that's how you got the car for free.
