Re: Who builds the fastest Q-jet
I use Ashley and he is great to work with. But one thing to keep in mind is that with most carbs, what you start with directly impacts what you end up with. There are good cores and not so good cores. The builders listed above are great at enhancing a q-jet for performance. But if you have a bad carb, not much can be done to make it perform like a good carb. From what I've been told, it's all about the top, not the body or base plate.

Re: Who builds the fastest Q-jet
WOW Q-Jets....
I have a Bobby Warren and WA Lee Carbs Sent the Warren Carb to Val Headworth... It got the royal blueprint treatment with new air bleeds, and internal components. I know it works well Budd Rowe borrowed it for a buddies 74 Nova. Still trying to get my 69 Impala out of the Resto Shop. Hopefully the year will generate enough money to get it finished. |

Re: Who builds the fastest Q-jet
I used to do Q-Jets also but as I am really a MoPar guy I decided to concentrate on the Carter TQ as there were very limited builder outlets for racers. That said, I have seen examples of most of the "good" Q-Jet builders out there and I have to say I would lean towards Ashley for the Stock/ Super Stock combos in general. I have seen several back to back tests and his seem to come out on the winning end. Danny's drivability, in my opinion, is better. Once again this is just my opinion, for what it's worth. Jim

Re: Who builds the fastest Q-jet
I don't use a carb, but have worked with Dean Oliver on some data logging and wide band O2 projects and I sure am impressed with his knowledge. Nice guy too.

Re: Who builds the fastest Q-jet

Re: Who builds the fastest Q-jet
The core is the big piece to the puzzle. Once you have a good core the the above mentioned racers make them great. In addition, I have used Jim Boburka and Gary Stinnett carbs with little to no variance in et and mph.

Re: Who builds the fastest Q-jet
When you all say" its all about the Q-jet core" . What do you all look for? So one might know what core to send to one of the Q-jet builders. ThankYou Kenney Kelley

Re: Who builds the fastest Q-jet
In saying its all about the core that does not mean a SPECIFIC # core, it means its all about the core in general. Those of us who have been using these carbs for along time know that it could take as many as a dozen or more cores to find one that really stands out. Now that being said I don't expect someone today to go out and try a dozen carbs, I was just stating a known fact that took 45 yrs or more to find out. Guys like Danny and Deano will put you in the right direction.
