considering a new 1956 265 build. have ?s
can you use:
electric fuel pump
electric water pump
electric fan
aftermarket oil pan with a kick out
homemade deeeep oil pan
305 Chevy block with a 3" stroke crank, but big mains
can you really run a 4 speed, legal, in a '56. very important

are the rear axle choices still '56 or 12 bolt

Rod, First off you need to get a rule book and read up on Stock eliminator. Second I would suggest you do the 305 block with the spacer bearings as that solves a lot of problems with finding a good 265 block and dealing with the starter mount, main seal, oil filter adapter etc. I have done a 265 that way and it works fine. Also with a 265 original block you have to use a forged crank so it will clear the internals of the block. 305 block doesn't have this problem. Any 265 ,283 crank will work.

Probably would want a steel crank with a stick though.

Cool I will put spacers in an early 360 and use a 318 crank. I dont think spacers are approved for stock.

Didn't mean to open up a can of worms but aren't most bowtie blocks large journal blocks? How do they run a 3" stroke crank in them to make them a 265 or 283?. I went through tech in 2019 with my 265 made from a 305 block and the tech guys noted it had side mounts and I told them what i had done. It was ok then?
